Please refer to the BRBC Calendar for the most current list of club events, including meetings.

General Membership

Monthly BRBC meetings occur on the third Wednesday of each month (except December). In winter, meetings are at Earth Fare in Westgate Shopping Center in west Asheville. The meeting begins at 7:00 PM, followed by a presentation of interest to cyclists. Come early (6 PM) to order food. Admission is free to all; both members and non-members are welcome. For additional details about any club meeting, contact Archer Yates, BRBC Vice President, at 684-1846 or send email to Archer

In summer, we have a group ride rather than a program following the meeting. The summer meetings are short -- 15 minutes or less. Ride and meeting locations vary, so check with an officer for current information.

February 2008

The Blue Ridge Bicycle Club will meet for its February meeting on February 20th at 6:00 p.m. for dinner and socializing . The program will start at 7:00 p.m. We will meet at Earth Fare Natural Food Store in Westgate Shopping Center. Westgate Shopping Center is just across the Smoky Park Bridge from downtown Asheville. Earth Fare has a restaurant and cafeteria-style facilities with beer and wine available. We will meet in the community room in the back of the store.

Joe Cirvello, a member of Blue Ridge Bicycle Club, will present a program on his experiences of riding the RAGBRAI (according to one of the founding organizers, John Karras, it is pronounced "RAG-bray"). RAGBRAI is an acronym for Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa. It is a non-competitive bicycle ride across Iowa that draws recreational riders from across the United States and overseas. Ten thousand cyclists register each year to ride from a community on Iowa's western border to a community on Iowa's eastern border, stopping in towns across the state. Estimates of unregistered riders vary greatly anywhere from three to ten thousand.

Joe Cirvello has had experience in bicycle touring in the USA, Canada and Europe. He should be a good source for information on bicycle touring. Much of his touring has been solo and self-contained. All the wannabe tourists should come with their questions.

An important part of or meeting is to allow individuals to introduce themselves and to get to know our newer members. Bicycle riding in our area is a new experience for some and we want to make sure that we can facilitate an introduction to safe and enjoyable cycling. If you are new to our area please try to come to this meeting. Also, we will talk about all the upcoming rides with the new additions for this year. We have a great route planned for an overnight "tour" later this year. The date and final arrangements will be announced later. Your input in the planning is encouraged.
