Yesterday's (June 5, 2007) Madison County fat burner, the "Ridges of Madison County", was the final ride of the 2007/18th season. Ten riders enjoyed the spectacular countryside. Now I understand why this is one of Wes Garbee's favorite rides.
Our gracious hosts for this ride were Kathleen and Harold Phillips of Mars Hill, who provided refreshments and shared stories that reminded us all what a special person Wes is. Harold met us at the Little Creek Café for a traditional light brunch, which was a nice surprise. The café is under new ownership and the food and service were fine.
Without a doubt, this was the prettiest ride of the season. The group decided to opt out of the doing Spillcorn Road climb, but still accomplished 6,520 feet of total ascent along with putting in 72 miles. The weather was wonderful and the midday clouds created shadows that enhanced the countryside vistas.
As you can see in the attached photographs, several riders wore biking sandals and rode Wes Garbee style, as group leader Kris Sjostrom guided us safely throughout the day, Thank you Kris. All in all, everyone had a wonderful ride although we missed having Wes with us.
Looking forward to next year's Madison County fat burner (at Harold and Kathie's new house) and having Wes back in the saddle.
Below are a couple of photos from yesterday's ride-one group photo and a photo of Kathie and Harold saying Hi to Wes.
