If you are a bicyclist without comprehensive health insurance, you may wish to consider getting accident insurance. An accident insurance policy covers your health care costs in case of any type of accident, whether bicycle related or not. It is much less expensive than comprehensive health insurance; a typical policy may cost only a few hundred dollars per year.
One company that offers such a policy is American Heritage Life Investment Corporation, which is subsidiary of Allstate. More information on this policy may be found on the Allstate Financial Accident Insurance Products web page.
Some of our members have purchased this accident policy, and are very pleased with it. A local agent for the policy is Doug Lack of Four Star Insurance Group, Inc. If you are interested in this policy, please call Doug at (828) 670-1044. Doug is easy to reach, and he can help you tailor the policy to your specific needs.
For the record, the Blue Ridge Bicycle Club does not officially endorse any insurance company. Regardless of who your insurance carrier is, please read your policy carefully and make sure it does what you want it to. Before purchasing any new coverage, please investigate carefully, and read the fine print before writing a check. Charlie Clogston, our treasurer, says that insurance companies are like umbrella salesmen. When you really need them, they are never around.
