BRBC “AWAY RIDES” for 2008
Gary Lightfoot glightfoot@citcom.net
An AWAY RIDE is a ride outside the Western NC area and would require us to drive up to 300 miles on Friday. Rides will be on Saturday and Sunday. Information, to include an Itinerary, will be sent over the listserv for each ride and will also be loaded onto the CALENDAR writeup for each ride. Click on "Calendar" on the left side of the BRBC homepage.
Gary Lightfoot is organizing these rides. If you have any questions, please contact him. The list below are the rides for the 2008 season.
Away Ride #1: Charleston, SC Feb 29 - Mar 2 The Charleston area is one of my favorites. The winter is mild and the flowers are out in mid to late Feb. The rides can take us past the beautiful homes in the historic district Plantations and Gardens, Historic Forts, and the list goes on. Some will want to go shopping between rides or do a host of other tourist activities.
AWAY RIDE #2: Nashville, TN Apr. 18-20 Natchez Trace Best month for seeing the Redbuds, very few motorhomes and “monster trailers” out yet and great weather. The local club in Franklin, TN. would like us to join them for one or more rides. The Natchez Trace with a little over 440 miles of smooth parkway road would make a great trip for those who want to take a much longer trip than a weekend away trip.
AWAY RIDE #3: Lexington, KY June 6-8 Bike through Horse Country, the heart of Bluegrass, have breakfast with the jockeys at Keeneland Race Course and visit by bike the Pleasant Hill Shaker Village. Three great rides and lots of other fun options.
AWAY RIDE #4: Johnson City, TN Sept. 5-7 Some BRBC members have toured this area before and the local club may roll out the red carpet for us. Archer Yates has already sent me some good information on the area The local club wants us to join them for club rides and maybe a meal or two. This is only a 116 mile drive from Asheville via I-26.
