With guidance from Rich Mathews, the club is looking into converting from a 501c4 to a 501c3. A 501c4 is essentially an educational and sporting association. We perform a public service, but we aren't tax deductible.
We are now considering converting to a 501c3, which is a true charitable organization. We believe that our current activities are essentially the ones allowed by the 501c3 requirements. But, by converting to a 501c3, we gain the ability to draw greater amounts of money into our good works.
This is partly because money donated to BRBC would now be tax deductible, but it is also because, as a 501c3, we can become eligible to receive grants and other money that isn't available to a 501c4.
